The Village Wines Story
Village Wines (formerly The Village Wine Trader) was established in 1992 by Duncan Win and remains one of the most respected and beloved independent wine stores in New Zealand.

In April 2024, Duncan handed the reins to Vanessa Orringe, a familiar face with over 15 years local wine retailing expertise. In late 2024, she rebranded to Village Wines and expanded the range to not only push the boundaries on wine norms, but also spirits, liqueurs, international beers and deli foods, such as imported nougat from Italy and delightful French cheese.
Single malts and great reds, in particular, are a shared love between Vanessa and her partner David (dairy farmer by day and wine/whisky connoisseur by night). Together they have attended many Dramfest weekends in Christchurch run by the team at Whisky Galore (one of their great suppliers), visited numerous wineries and critiqued their way through countless wine trade events.
Alastair Bryan joined Village Wines in May 2025 and is now one of the family. He was part of the hospitality scene in Palmerston North during its hey-day (think Dejeuner and London Park Cafe) and has worked alongside some of NZ's best restauranteurs, the likes of Simon Gault and Nic Watt and Peter Gordon in the UK. His knowledge, particularly in wine and food pairings, is matched only by his quick one-liners and equally warm welcome.
