Note: this is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc. The "+" refers to the winemaking, which uses skin fermentation and malolactic fermentation, and not to a blend.
Vineyard Pyramid Valley is a biodynamic producer under Steve Smith and Brian Sheth (owners since 2017). The producer's notes give two North Canterbury sources: the BioGro-certified Good Family Vineyard on Georges Road (Glasnevin Gravels) and the Fraher Vineyard (Omihi Clay). Fermentation is wild-yeast, 70% in concrete tulipes, 22% in old barrels and 8% on skins. The wine has full malolactic fermentation and six months on lees before bottling.
Wine Golden lemon in colour, with subtle meadow flower and lemongrass aromas. It has a full, mouth-filling texture and notes of dried herbs. Critics also describe gooseberry, stone fruit and Meyer lemon. Salivating acidity gives length and a moreish quality, and it steers well clear of the tropical Marlborough style.
